With the right kind of endodontic care, most RCT treated teeth last as long as normal teeth. However in, some rare cases, pain may persist despite being Rct treated. In most cases such teeth can be retreated and saved.
Probable causes for root canal failures are as follows:
• Missed root canals not visible with naked eye or dental x-rays.
• Abnormally curved canals not appropriately cleaned and restored
• Calcified or blocked canals.
• Broken instruments in the root canal system.

Surgery in some cases may be required to save tooth from failed root canal treatment.
